The nature of mathematics teaching significantly affects the nature and outcomes of student learning. This highlights the huge responsibility teachers have for their students, mathematics well being. This study offers ten principles as a starting point for discussing change, innovation, and reform. These principles should be viewed as a whole, not isolation: teaching is complex, and many interrelated factors have an impact on student learning.
