Dear Chandra, A good question. This is difficult but one advice I have is modeling learning. If students have a clear model to follow they can do more to change their habits. Unfortunately with the situation, it's harder to model good educational practices. But if students have access to a computer and a smartphone, a good practice is to module something like reading a story (where you verbalize how you are interpreting and questioning the story as you read) and then ask students to do the same model with another story.
