Dear Suresh, Great question. This is difficult because a lot of this involves building enthusiasm for a topic. My suggestion (if students have access to technology) is to build enthusiasm over a specific topic and try to get a set of texts they can read about the topic. With the right framing of the topic, you will surely get the attention of students. If they are learning English a good strategy is to get them thinking about U.S. American culture. A topic I like to teach is stories of immigration to the United States. I have a class where I teach the show One Day at a Time and Gentified and we talk about Latino identity and ways its represented in the show. Reading about another culture, especially one within the United States, might be an engaging topic for students. Warmly, Dr. Michael Grafals
