Get down from your high horses. This is applicable to everyone and not only teachers. Kids are very smart these days. They can't be treated in the manner as of yesteryears. Respect is the key. Respect their opinion even if they don't make sense. Respect their sharing or no sharing. Respect their shortcomings for this is what makes them unique and this is where their potential is hidden. Giving you an example if a child is very naughty it is perhaps because he is not able to contain his energy. A child with high energy if guided properly can do really well in scores of activities. Respect their disturbing of class. In one case a child was doing this repeatedly to protect his academically weaker friends. This act of his shows compassion and concern which needs to be appreciated. When you respect them for who they are they will gradually start truly respecting you. They will listen to you and will be happy to follow your instructions.
