This is a very pertinent question to ask today. Are exams largely based on recall and fact retrieval still relevant in this ever changing and dynamic world where the student is tested on anything but what he or she learns from the textbook. Education boards across the country are too keenly looking at alternatives to regular textbook exams and that is why CBSE came up with CCE (Continuous and comprehensive evaluation) as a method to evaluate a child more regularly and through different means. This is a start and today schools are looking at various innovative ways of evaluating. The more important question to ask here is: Should we evaluate a child at a fixed interval or should evaluation be a continuous process as CBSE has proposed. What do you think of that?

Open book exam: Students can use books and notes, it will encourage students to learn to apply knowledge rather than memorize. Crib sheet: students has to bring notes, putting concepts in your own words. It will enhance their critical thinking. Retake policies : to give students an opportunity to repeat the test. So that they could learn from their mistakes. Take home exams: it gives students more time in fact longer than a class period. Students can use variety of references.
