Why have we stopped give stars to students on performing well on homework or for good handwriting as they proceed to higher classes? Why have we as teachers & parents moved from positive reinforcement to negative reinforcement while dealing with students inside or outside class? Please share your approach to reinforcement in class and how can i learn from them ?

It is imperative to comprehend as well as promote pro-social behavior in early childhood. We as teachers have to maintain a balance in appraising the children who are doing exceptionally well as well as positively motivating students who lack behind in our classrooms or it is difficult for them to compete with rest of the students. Various studies have shown how children imitate behaviors and hence, it is necessary to be careful with our own inner conflicts. In my opinion, one should not give up the small little means of appraisals like star of the week, dedicating leadership roles, pat on the back etc. and also keep in mind about other children too. Reinforcement includes both rewards as well as punishment, it is we as teachers who guide little ones. There are few links which can be looked at approaches to reinforcing children.
