Many parents are illiterate so they have little idea what their children are learning. But the idea of private school implies success. Increasing numbers of Indians, rich and poor, are paying for schooling. The share of pupils in private education has risen from 28% to 33% in just three years. In rural areas it has almost doubled in eight years, from 16% to 29%. Private schools organise classes in tiny rooms, sometimes outside. Economic Status impacts both the schools, teachers pay and even students who come from poor economic background ! A large portion of these establishments are just shops selling degrees, as indicated by the report. "While there are a couple (establishments) which can be distinguished as 'Focuses of Excellence', both in general society and private areas, there are an enormous number which are unremarkable, some of them could well be portrayed as 'degree shops'." Expenses at private organizations are more than twofold those charged by government foundations, as indicated by the NSS report. Private establishments keep the expense of instruction high, in spite of confinements on producing benefit.
