I am a new teacher and have joined in between the session, the students were familiar with the old teacher and it is becoming difficult to establish a rapport with them. What should I do?

This is a situation which every teacher encounters at some point of time and sometimes very frequently when you get a new class at the start of an academic year. It is really important to have a great bonding with students to smoothly implement the teaching-learning process in your class. The basic requirement for a great student-teacher relationship is trust, your students should know that they are important for you and you can help them in every situation. Some of the actions which will help you to build this trust are: 1) Greet your students with a smile 2) Have an informal conversation with students to know about their interest and share your experiences with them when you were a student 3) Set some classroom rules and expectations with the students to protect your classroom from unnecessary disturbance 4) Add some fun to your classroom by conducting activities, these activities could be concept related or some energizers as well 5) Appreciate your students for even their small achievements
