When UNESCO published its first list of protected places in 1978, there were just 12 World Heritage Sites. They were: The Galapagos Islands and Quito (both in Ecuador) Yellowstone National Park and Mesa Verde National Park (both in the US)
UNESCO has conferred the World Heritage tag to Ramappa Temple at Palampet, Warangal, Telangana. The Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate the entire team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)
Dholavira, known as the site of the Harappan period, located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
