The largest visible-light telescope currently in operation is at Gran Canarias Observatory and features a 10.4-meter (34-foot) primary mirror. The Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory near Fort Davis, Texas, has the world's largest telescope mirror.
The Gran Telescopio Canarias is the largest optical telescope in the world. The 10.4m mirror is actually an array of 36 hexagonal mirrors. It sits over 7,000 feet above sea level. A recent project allows the GTC to observe the universe’s most unique objects.
