Listen to pronunciation. (PEP-sin) An enzyme made in the stomach that breaks down proteins in food during digestion. Stomach acid changes a protein called pepsinogen into pepsin.

The enzyme pepsinogen is found in stomach of humans. When it comes in contact of HCl , it gets converted into its active form which is pepsin. It helps in digestion of protein in your food.
