Carbon dioxide is composed of one carbon atom covalently bonded to two oxygen atoms. It is a gas (at standard temperature and pressure) that is exhaled by animals and utilized by plants during photosynthesis.
In the process of respiration animals produce a waste gas , carbon dioxide . It is used by plants in the process of photosynthesis to make their food.
Animals breathe in oxygen and exhale CO2, while plants take in CO2 during the day and release oxygen. In a process called “photosynthesis,” plants use the energy in sunlight to convert CO2 and water to sugar and oxygen.
