Good evening! I am Aishwarya Gairola speaking for the motion on the topic “is competition a necessary part of education “

Jacob kindleberger once said

“A little competition is a good thing and severe competition is a blessing.”

Education has a purpose to create excellent and responsible citizens. But it spends way too much time trying to change an individual , rather than to encourage them. Whereas Competition encourages and motivates them to be better.

Competition in education is simply preparation for life. There’s no job you ever got where you didn’t beat someone else out. There’s no job you ever DIDN’T get where someone else didn’t beat you to it.

Life is a series of competitive events. Humans are and have always been a competitive species.

Competition is the most ruthless and honest criticism of any skill or effort.

In the words of one of my favourite book characters:

“Only your enemy will show you where you are weak.”

Competition is not nice. Competition is not gentle. Competition is not friendly. Competition is honest and competition is life - and thus, is entirely necessary. Far better we teach this to children when the stakes are so trivial as a game. Classroom is the best place to seed a competitive individual.

But what if a child is not competitive enough? does that by any chance mean that she is any less ? It may honestly tell about one child scoring more than other but are we not concerened sbout focussing on each child and making sure that discriminations do not creep in at such tender age

Even when you’re focusing on one child, the aim is to make that child a better version of themselves and that needs and requires an iota of competitive spirit. The ability to compete with one’s own self is the most positive competition.

Can competition ensure about the fact that who ever is clearing the competition that person is educated?
