Positive reinforcements like stars or token system works very well.

Giving them easily achievable tasks at the onset helps them be more meaningfully engaged.

Acknowledging their effort with a clap ritual or a praise ritual also has a great impact.

Giving them a sense of achievement in everything that they do to compeltion or fruition goes a long way.

However be aware of the trap of unreasonable praises, that can make a child complacent

Hi Sujatha,

This is a very challenging thing when it comes to the teacher handling this. In my opinion I would suggest to give the child the opportunity to showcase whatever skills he has mastered or at least perfected. This will enable his motivation to continue and improve his other skills and also subtly raises the child’s confidence little by little.

Also you can follow a reward system, a chart or something, where he can see the stars or smilies he has earned. That will work for them too.

Lastly, you need alot of support from the parents too, because a child spends half of the time at home too. So the parents should equally support in this, encourage the child, giving opportunities, letting him lead in some or the other task, appreciating. Also ensuring no shaming, or labelling.

I hope the above suggestions helps you.
