In a book called "Peak- The Science of extraordinary achievements," the author Anders Erricson gives a comprehensive overview of why some people are simply better than 'normal' people! from surgens to musicians one thing that is common is 'deliberate practice' which means essentially focussing on skills. This phenomenon comes from outdoor activities, and the concept of exams simply ruins it, because students start focusing more on learning concepts rather than implementing them. Students cram formulas in math and science. But mugging up the formulae of area of triangle won't make a better future, for the representation and topology of the triange remain the same! what will change the future is the guidance towards helping the students to learn the skills to derive new equations. the example may vary with different interest of students, but the focus here is on skill development.
it is quite understandable that not everybody can ace at a particular subject, and that is exactly why vocational activities based on one's interest should be encouraged, rather than making all students take exams based on same subjects!

Note worthy we need to curate the minds which can implement ideas and theories, minds that can question the existing theories. In the world of Google mugging up is so overrated.

This has been a point that I have put up previously also. Mugging up is one aspect of specific subjects, which can be removed altogether through better methods of conducting classes and changing the overall system of studying, and not by piling on exams

what stops them is their focus on spilling the same theory in exams, and gaining marks which have become the prime goal at present. at an age where adaptability of brain is best, students spend hours learning old concepts rather than thinking of new ones

but how are exams stopping people from questioning existing theories ?One thing it is definitely doing is making sure that they read these theories if at all they plan to disprove them.

With the new education ploicy of the government, special focus is given on overall develomet of individual.. we understand that each child is unique and for that very purpose , students get a choice to choose the subject they prefer and excel it by proper evaluation from time to time. still cant get why we should abolish the examinations..

yes i agree, fields of surgeons and musicians do require what we call as "deliberate practice" but it is also important to note that all skill based exercise have some theortical background that a student needs to understand before diving right into practicing it. Exams ensure that the theorical aspect of it, is well understood and that the student does not hurry in jumping right into applying what he has learnt, like taking the example that you have given for instance, you would not obviously want a surgeon who failed his med school exams to perform your surgery. Exams ensure that the minimum level of knowledge that one needs in order to pratice that discipline is achieved before it is practiced in real life situations.

that isn't the case every time, for as has been discussed, many students simply memorize for spilling it in exams, making the argument of understanding theories redundant.
