The concept of examinations is present in the school curriculums with the motive to test whether the students have understood and grasped the concepts taught in class, and currently, they fail to do so. The reasons are multiple, as taking exams has become more about gaining marks, than understanding, hence focusing more on rote learning rather than clarity.
Students having better memory tend to score better, irrespective of the fact whether they understand the concept they are writing in the exam or not.

From a student perspective, yes it could be argued that exams are looked from the point of gaining of marks but it serves other important functions too. For instance, It enables the teachers and the school to understand how much of their teaching is being translated and understood by the students. This in turn forces the teachers to do better and therefore pull the entire education system up.

its true , exams are held to understand if the students have grasped the concepts taught in the class . For that very purpose, teachers frame more of conceptual based paper like case study which would actually judge the potential of the students. those who understand will surely gain marks . this can be the solution for your Problem. Abolishment of examinations can never be a solution

There is a proper study pattern- Unit tests, half yearly examination and then final exxamination. we need to undergo through all of that . its like stairs, you climb each step one by one and reach the destination.

The motive is to test the students based on their progress, and an exam conducted once or twice a year cannot suffice to track that, for students might adapt to a mindset that getting more marks it more important than learning throughout the year.
