I personally think that the concept of exams have not become redundant. We need to understand the purpose that exams are intented to serve. The purpose that its serves is multifolded in nature and in a techological and rather competitive world its relevance increases all the more. Through exams we can prepare our younger generation of what to expect from this competitive world and they would become better equiped to face the competition that exists in all fields.
Basic human instincts like competition, stress management etc. are learnt through examination . when we face competition we helps us to be effective as well as utilise our true potential and strive for more. Examinations are not just tools of evaluation, it’s the base which leads to the development of an indivudal.
That's the whole point. In most of competitive exams they don't take grades as their main parameter. A student who has spent 12 years studying in a system. Has to now adjust to a very different segment. If u r so comprehensively prepared and stressed about the exam why doesn't it help after u graduate school? U basically have to unlearn and even take drop years to get into your higher studies which should be a branch out from your school education.
The 'rote-learning' concept is based on the narrative that all subjects are equally flawed. Sure, some subjects need tweaks in curriculum, but most rely on the understanding of the subject more than other factors, and that is why exams are necessary
27 Nov 2020Calling examinations redundant is a brave but misguided thought, when we fixate on the negatives of it, we tend to think of the very worst, actually, exams are something that we all are products of, and we all take pride in the degrees and achievements they provide us with
Those are also examinations, albeit checking for different aptitudes. Equating school examinations with those is comparing apples and oranges. We have to understand that doing that will always result in school exams feeling redundant when they aren't
27 Nov 2020but what about the fact that the achievement is based on rote learning? If the concept was that good, students would get jobs faster. But exams don't test skills, entirely why medical students spend a decade to learn them even though they ace at exams!
