Examinations are vital for the evaluation of the progress of students, which is a vital component of the teaching-learning process as it helps in the improvement of both, the students as well as the teachers.

If we let go of testing and rely on open methods of evaluation (independent skill solving and the likes) we are letting go of benchmarks, which are always necessary in environments that demand our participation It's what we call 'awarding incompetence', where one thing is taught and another evaluated

Examinations are a reliable method of assessment because they require all students to learn the same things and answer the same/similar questions.

even in standardised testing system, no student can mug up what has been taught. understanding of the concepts is the key, Also teachers have came up with new type of questions and exam patterns which focuses more on concepts .

But what good are we gaining out of these standardised testing system. It just reflects that the student can mug up what has been taught.

The standardised system of testing, known as exams, are a necessary part of the schooling system, because all extras aside, we need to have one system on which we test, nay, evaluate the basics of what is being taught to students.
