Anything, which gives their mind some thoughts about how things work and why there is this necessity of these rules and regulations to be implemented and obeyed.

And not some physical hurt which they just treat and work on its protection the next time.

Personally, standing infront of a group who is out there to learn, and facing them and their curiousity is the greatest thing one can do, hence teaching is not everybody's cup of tea, and the sooner a person realizes this, the sooner he stops doing what he does.

Reformative approach is the best anyday, a day in the life of a teacher is something, which must be taught to students, so that the right value and importance of a teacher is inherited in them, today after joining a college, becoming a member of a student driven committee, dealing with kids and other students, we understand and regret everything we did in our school, when the other person just wanted us to be better and learn something new.

And I strongly believe that this should be taught to the students at an age where they can understand it better.

In my opinion both are effective in thier own ways. One thing that matter here is the balance, one has to use them wisely to get the best possible results but with punishments there should never be a physical hurt involved.

On a comparative analysis, rewards work as incentive towards growth whereas punishment functions towards correcting the behaviour to make the students learn the fundamental values.

To my best belief, the application of the concept of punishment is as such that it acts as a successor to the concept of rewarding. Only when making the pupil understand the morals and academic values in a composed manner doesn’t seem to work, comes incentivising them with rewards, which then is followed by punishment, if there exists a further need.

Ergo, punishment, in itself is not rendered wrong in this way, but remains the only resort when other options do not seem to work out.
