As a teacher, we are already doing one of the greates duties of a responsible citizen. We are providing historical knowledge and futuristic skills to our students. The youth of today will ultimately create a better society than the ones we find ourselves in.

Some of the things we can do to simultaneously be accountable to education of students as well as the larger society are as follows:

1) Provide knowledge to children - of our legacy and our past; make them aware of the struggles that have led us to be a part of a free and democratic country

2) Remind students of their rights as well as duties 

3) Provide the necessary life skills such as critical thinking, communication and independent thinking so they can be part of an evolving society

4) Learn about new tools and technologies, and teaching strategies so no student is left behind due to our shortcomings

5) Reduce the hierarchies in our classroom to provide the necessary knowledge on equality to our students.

6) Be a good listener and mentor to our students.

7) Teach by setting an example through our own good deeds
