Start with the basics and every topic that you introduce let them hear to the pronounciation either through songs or poems. Google has many listening resources and then re-inforce by making the child speak, lastly writing

It depends a lot on the Language that you're going to teach. 

However, starting with sounds and pronunciations is the most effective as that is the challenging part. 

You can then introduce them to basic vocabulary and grammar. 

The important thing here would be to make sure that you ask them to reuse the grammar or vocabulary in some way i.e. a dialogue, or a short essay.
