This is something I specifically work with. I teach English to Spanish children. They always hesitate to talk in English. It is best to never answer in any other language. Make it a rule in class to only speak in English. If it becomes very difficult for the child to explain a particular thing then he/she can take help of other children in class to translate it in English. This way all the students will benefit with learning and eventually it encourages all of them to always try and speak only in English. You must not answer if asked in any other language.
