Good Evening. That is a really good effort. I'd suggest you to involve virtue of knowledge and emotions in this activity. Ask the kids to put small tags on the pots of the saplings as well as the trees around them. The tag should contain its name in English, the name in their mother tongue, scientific name (For kinds above grade 8) and what is the special feature of that species. For ex. - beautiful flowers, attracts bees, gives shade, used as medicine etc. based on their age and observation. This would help them retain the knowledge for a longer time. Also, ask them to give a pet name to the plant and take care of it as their family member. Also ask them to record the growth and changes of the sapling on a weekly basis and trees on a monthly basis. This would inculcate the values of care and respect in them as well. You can ask them to observe the perception of people towards various plants based on their uses and sentimental values. This way, a single activity can branch out to create knowledge, awareness and empathy. Thanks.
