Our skin has a tendency to shed a layer of dead cells regularly and the process of formation of new cells continuously takes place. These processes help skin to protect itself from any kind of infection to a great extent. For example, after any infection, top layer dries and turned dark later on it sheds off and a new fresh layer of skin appears i.e. it disinfect itself. This may be one reason to say that our skin is called a self disinfecting organ.
