About
Module 1 talks about the difference between sex and gender that although there are differences between men and women, many of these differences are constructed by society(gender), and are not part of their nature or biological make‐up (sex). We learn from society, family and friends, history and culture how to act and behave in ways appropriate to our gender. The way boys and girls are raised has a large impact on how they learn to express themselves as men and women in their relationships, work lives and at home. Girls are often raised to express emotions and attributes that are ‘typically feminine,’ while boys are encouraged to enact those that are more ‘typically masculine’. In this module, we will explore how gender stereotypes are constructed and how it has a larger impact on our position in the society.
